Two alleged armed robbers dead, two arrested after shootout with police in Bizana


Swift reaction by the members of Hawks, detectives and visible policing in Bizana, led to the arrest of two allegedly armed robbery suspects after four suspects attempted to rob the Rhino Cash and Carry store, in the town, on Thursday morning.

Police were alerted about the incident and quickly followed up on information received from the community.

“The suspects were located where they were hiding in a bushy area on the outskirts of Bizana. They opened fire when they noticed the approaching police members.

“A shootout ensued and all four of the suspects were wounded during the incident,” described police spokesperson, Captain Kaya Tonjeni.

He said that two suspects were fatally wounded while the other two were taken to the hospital under police guard.

“Three pistols were recovered from the scene. And the two suspects will be charged for attempted robbery, murder and attempted murder,” he said.

Mount Ayliff Cluster Commander, Brigadier Mthuthuzeli Mtukushe commended the members for their swift reaction.

He also expressed his appreciation to the Bidi and Matheba community members that assisted police with vital information at the right time.

The Provincial Commissioner, Lt Gen Lisiwe Ntshingo echoed his words and added: “this incident proves why it is so important that communities and police work hand in glove in order to eliminate criminal activities and arrest those who are breaking the law.”
