Two alleged Port Elizabeth hijackers arrested after high-speed chase

Members of the Port Elizabeth Flying Squad, with members of KwaZakhele Task Team, on Wednesday responded to a complaint of a hijacking in progress in Algoa Park. A vehicle, fitting the description, was spotted in New Brighton area and a high-speed chase ensued.

"Two suspects, aged 18 and 19 years, were arrested for hijacking and attempted murder," police said.

"Two replica firearms were recovered in the hijacked vehicle and one 9mm pistol with 8 live rounds of ammunition was seized."

The suspects are expected to appear in court on Thursday.

Elsewhere, joint efforts between the Queenstown K9 Unit, Cofimvaba Crime Intelligence, Bridgecamp SAPS and Bholothwa SAPS led to the arrests of two suspects.

"A 33-year-old suspect was arrested for the possession of an unlicensed forearm and ammunition," Eastern cape police said.

"The second suspect (40) was arrested for the possession of Tik."

Both suspects will also appear in court on Thursday.
