Two alleged Uitenhage house robbers arrested - three still at large

Uitenhage police swiftly arrested two suspected robbers in Bethelsdorp, Port Elizabeth, after five armed men allegedly stormed into a home in Caledon Street, Uitenhage, on Wednesday morning.

According to the police, the five men then threatened a 26 year-old resident they found in the house.

“The suspects demanded cash from the victim and fled with cell phones, an undisclosed amount of cash and a Toyota Fortuner,” said police spokesperson, Captain Gerda Swart.

She added that a case of house robbery was reported to local police and Uitenhage detectives followed up on leads and arrested the two suspects, both aged 38 years old. Their three alleged accomplices are still at large.

The Port Elizabeth Flying Squad recovered the stolen Toyota Fortuner after it was abandoned in Angola Street, in Izinyoka, near Uitenhage.

“Police will continue with their search until they arrest all the suspects,” said Captain Swart.

The two suspects will appear before the Uitenhage Magistrate's Court on Friday.
