MAY 11, 2016

Ugie police on Tuesday afternoon arrested two suspects, aged between 37 and 47 years, in Dalasile A/A outside Engcobo after finding them with four firearms and a stolen vehicle, a Mahindra SUV, following a robbery at a local farm.

"The arrests followed after police received information about the robbery," said police spokesperson, Captain Ursula Roelofse.

"It is alleged that the suspects approached 48 year-old  Ray  Brown on his farm, Morven, in the Ugie area, allegedly to buy cattle from him.

"After he took them to the field and they spoke about the purchase of the cattle, they allegedly forced him into a vehicle and went back home where they demanded money and firearms from him. He was forced to open the safe and they took firearms and an undisclosed amount of money.  The suspects then left the scene in his Mahindra SUV."

Capt Roelofse said that a case of armed robbery is being investigated  and detectives are following up all leads to trace and apprehend three outstanding suspects.

"The arrested suspects will appear in the Maclear Magistrates Court tomorrow, 12 May 2016 facing charges of possession of unlicensed firearm, armed robbery and theft of motor vehicle."

The acting  Cluster Commander of Elliot  Lt/Col Billson thanked the members for following the information which led to the arrest of the suspects.
