Two dead in Alberton multi-vehicle horror crash

OCTOBER 14, 2014

Two people were confirmed dead following a multi-vehicle accident on the N12 East near Voortrekker Road in Alberton on Tuesday morning, Ekurhuleni emergency services said.

“For now we have only accounted for two people that have been declared dead on scene,” spokesman William Ntladi said.

An eNCA report claims that nine people were critically injured in the crash with 47 others suffering less serious injuries.

Paramedics said it appeared that more than 20 vehicles were involved in the accident after the driver of a petrol tanker lost control on the highway.

“A petrol tanker lost control heading down the N12 near Voortrekker Road in Alberton,” ER24 spokesman Russel Meiring said.

“He collided with multiple vehicles. ER24 as well as other medical services have begun treating the injured.”

Netcare911 spokesman Santi Steinmann said one critically injured patient was airlifted to hospital.

It was believed the accident happened around 7.30am.
