Two foreign nationals arrested for illegally dealing in uranium


Cape Town - Police say members of Crime Intelligence conducted an undercover operation on Thursday in Cape Town which resulted in the arrest of two Malawian nationals for illegally dealing in the radioactive element, uranium.

“The suspects, both males, were apprehended at about 13h00 when they attempted to sell four kilograms uranium at a price of R200 000. During their arrest, they also had 2.2 kilograms dagga in their possession,” SAPS said in a statement.

“They are detained on charges relating to the Nuclear Energy Act (Act46/1999) and dealing in drugs, and will remain in custody until their court appearance at Cape Town Magistrates Court Monday 15 September 2014.”
