Two Lesotho nationals busted with dagga worth R41 000 in Butterworth

Two Lesotho nationals, aged between 34 and 42 years, are expected to appear before the Butterworth Magistrate’s Court soon for allegedly dealing in dagga after they were arrested on Thursday by Msobomvu Police at Madiba Informal Settlements, Butterworth.

According to the police spokesperson, Captain Jackson Manatha, the suspects were arrested after a police intelligence operation found that they were dealing in dagga.

“The 34 year old suspect had dagga with 21,740 kg with a street value of R22 000 while the 42 year suspect had dagga with 18,770 kg with a street value of  R19 000,” said Captain Manatha.

In an unrelated incident, the Butterworth Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual offences Unit (FCS) on Wednesday arrested a 35 year-old Centane man for allegedly raping 43 year- old woman at Njakazi Locality, .Mcothama Village, Centane.

It is alleged that the victim was on her way to nearby shops on Sunday night at Njakazi Locality when the incident happened.

“The suspect followed her; he did not utter any word but accosted the victim. He overpowered her and eventually raped her,” described police spokesperson, Captain Manatha.

A case of rape was opened.

The suspect has been charged with rape and is expected to appear before the Centane Magistrate’s Court on Friday.
