Two men bust with at least 48 000 mandrax tablets near George

Two men, a 32-year-old from Sandton, Johannesburg, and a 35-year-old from Gugulethu, Cape Town, are expected in the George Magistrate's Court on Monday after they were arrested near the town for drug possession.

At least 48 000 Mandrax tablets, worth an estimated R2.4 million, were seized when police stopped and searched their Nissan Qashqai near Kraaibosch Estate following a tip-off on Saturday morning.

The drugs were stashed in 48 bags, containing 1 000 Mandrax tablets each, and hidden in different panels of the vehicle.

It is believed that the drugs were meant for distribution in the Western Cape.
