Two Port Alfred detectives in court for defeating justice and perjury

MAY 31, 2016

Two Port Alfred detectives appeared in the town's Magistrates’ Court earlier on Tuesday on charges of defeating the ends of justice and perjury.

Police spokesperson, Lieutenant Luvuyo Mjekula, could only state that Detective Constables Luyanda Tambo (34) and Abongile Gcaba (29) were arrested on Friday night in a sting operation in Port Alfred.

"After spending the weekend in custody, the two appeared separately and each was released on R1 000 bail with various conditions."

Magistrate Xolile Dlulisa instructed the two not to communicate or get into contact with any of the witnesses in the matter; not to interfere with the investigation and not to commit other offences or fail to appear in court.

The case was postponed until 13 July 2016 for further investigation and for the decision of the Director of Public Prosecutions.
