Two Stutterheim men sentenced for murder and armed robbery

The Stutterheim Regional Court on Thursday convicted and sentenced two male suspects, Siphosethu Phahlane, aged 22 years old, and Siphelo Tom, aged 26 years old, for a robbery and murder that took place at Kubusie Location, in Stutterheim, in July 2015.

According to the police, the conviction follows after the Stutterheim Detectives investigated a case involving two victims, aged between 41 and 45 years old, who were robbed and stabbed to death at Kubusie Location in July 2015.

“Thorough the investigation led Police to the house of these suspects, and they were arrested,” said police spokesperson, Captain Siphokazi Mawisa.

She added that, the suspects first appeared at Stutterheim Magistrate Court in August 2015 and the case was transferred to Regional Court on January 2016.

“They appeared several times before the Regional Court until they were found guilty on the charge,” said Captain Mawisa.

The suspects were found guilty, sentenced and convicted as follows:

  • Siphelo Tom: 10 years’ imprisonment for Murder; and
  • Siphosethu Phahlane: four years imprisonment for robbery.

“The Acting Station Commander for Stutterheim SAPS, Captain Makhaya Tukwayo commended the sterling investigative work by the Detectives,” concluded Captain Mawisa.
