Two suspects shot dead after robbing police officer in Motherwell, PE

Two suspects were killed in a shootout with police in Motherwell, Port Elizabeth, and three other suspects arrested after they robbed a police officer at her house in Motherwell on Monday morning, Eastern Cape police said.

"Today at 10:00am, SAPS Motherwell members were alerted to a house robbery in Kubangu Street at the residence of an off-duty female constable.

"She was overpowered, by an unknown number of armed assailants, her car a Ford Figo taken, as well as her police uniform, firearm and bank cards," the police said.

"When the robbers drew money, she received an sms on her cellphone and she informed SAPS. TRT members were alerted to go to the ATM. They spotted a suspicious VW Jetta rushing away and followed suit.

"Attempts to stop the vehicle failed and suspects stopped to jump out. TRT were hot in pursuit and the suspects started firing shots at members. TRT members returned fire and shot five suspects."

Two died on the scene. Three suspects were injured and arrested.

The vehicle was later recovered and two firearms recovered from the suspects,including the firearm taken from the member.
