Uitenhage Cluster police arrest 162 in weekend anti-crime operations

A total of 162 people were arrested for various crimes this past weekend Uitenhage cluster police said in a short statement.

According to police spokesperson Lieutenant Gerda Swart, the operation, which started at 18h00 on Friday and ended at 06h00 on Monday, included the issuing of 44 traffic fines worth R22 000, four drinking-and-driving arrests, 18 suspects apprehended for dealing in drugs, and 59 fines handed out to crimes involving alcohol.

Swart said further arrests consisted of reckless and negligent driving, robbery, possession of suspected stolen goods, assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm, theft and malicious damage to property.
