Members of the Uitenhage K9 unit on Tuesday morning arrested a 41 year-old male suspect after conducting routine patrols in Magennis Street, Uitenhage.

According to police spokesperson, Lieutenant Gerda Swart; "Members requested the driver of a white Mazda 323 to pull off the road and requested him to produce his drivers license.

"Members discovered that the drivers license was false and upon investigation of the vehicle, they discovered that the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) tag was tampered with and that the stamped VIN was removed."

The suspect was arrested on the spot for fraud.

"Investigations will continue to determine whether the vehicle was stolen and then a charge of possession of a suspected stolen motor vehicle will be added to the charges," said Lt Swart.

"The suspect is due to appear in the Uitenhage Magistrate’s Court soon.  Investigations by the Vehicle Identification Section (VIS) is currently underway."
