Two suspects, aged 28 and 30 years old, were arrested on Wednesday night after a high speed chase in Summerstrand, Port Elizabeth, after they allegedly hijacked a vehicle in KwaNobuhle, Uitenhage.

According to Port Elizabeth police, three armed suspects entered the residential home of a KwaNobuhle man on Tuesday and demanded keys to his VW Polo TSI and his cell phone.

The suspects fled the scene in the vehicle and the owner later managed to open a case on the same day at KwaNobuhle SAPS.

“On Wednesday, at about 17:15, members from SAPS Uitenhage K9 unit were busy with patrols when they spotted the vehicle and it was confirmed by Uitenhage 10111 that the vehicle was indeed hijacked the previous day,” said Captain Gerda Swart.

Members from the Uitenhage K9 followed the vehicle leading to a high speed chase, which later ended when officers managed to pull the vehicle off the road in Summerstrand, Port Elizabeth, and arrested two suspects.

Captain Swart said that the suspects are expected to appear in the Uitenhage Magistrate’s Court on Monday facing charges of hijacking.

“The matter is still under investigation,” he added.
