Uitenhage police arrest over 220 suspects in weekend crime prevention operations

Through high density operations that were conducted over the past weekend, a total of 221 suspects were arrested on various charges in the Uitenhage Cluster, police said on Monday.

"These arrests included seven for robbery, assault with the intent to do grievous bodily harm, two for house breaking and theft and the possession of suspected stolen goods. 20 persons were arrested for driving under the influence of liquor," the police described.

"Police in the Uitenhage Cluster will continue to combat crime effectively in the Uitenhage Cluster."

The South African Police Service also appealed to the community to work with the SAPS in reducing crime by providing valuable information that will lead to the arrest of suspects, the tracing of illegal firearms and the recovery of stolen property.
