Uitenhage police nab 156 in weekend crime prevention operations

A total of 156 suspects were arrested in crime prevention operations conducted by Uitenhage cluster police from Friday evening to Monday morning.

In a statement, police spokesperson Lieutenant Gerda Swart said arrests ranged from attempted murder and housebreaking, to theft, assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm, possession of suspected stolen goods and possession of drugs, and the theft of a motor vehicle.

Forty-one fines, worth R20 500, were also issued with seven suspects being arrested for drunk driving and 64 being taken into custody for other liquor related crimes.
