Uitenhage Stock Theft Unit confiscates 22 sheep carcasses, suspect escapes

The Uitenhage Stock Theft Unit seized 22 sheep carcasses at a house in Motherwell on Thursday, after they received a tip-off from the community about the house.

According to Port Elizabeth police spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu, the owner of the home apparently ran away when police officers swooped on the house.

Police have urged the farmers in the neighbouring areas to contact Captain Gary Du Randt on 082 958 9099 or the Stock Theft Unit in Port Elizabeth on 082 414 1951 if they have discovered stock was lost or stolen.

“Farmers and livestock owners are requested to always count their livestock and to immediately report all stock theft to the nearest police station,” said Colonel Naidu.

She added that famers should also put identification marks and signs on all the livestock they own, be in possession of a livestock register and verify all the details of potential employees when recruiting new employees.

At this stage, no ownership has been claimed.
