Ultra luxurious Mercedes priced

Mercedes-Benz South Africa has revealed the pricing as well as model range of its ultra-luxury S-class Coupe. Brought in a replacement for the CL, the new Benz measures 5,027 mm in length, 89 mm longer than its sedan sibling and 1,411 mm in height, 72 mm lower, and will offer three models, all with similar engines and outputs to the respective sedan.

The range kick-offs with the S500, which is priced at R 1 921 619, and comes powered by a 4.7-litre bi-turbo V8 producing 335 kW and 700 N.m. It will also be the only model in the range to utilise Mercedes’ brand new ZF sourced nine-speed automatic transmission and is claimed to go from 0-100 km/h in 4.6 seconds and on to a limited top speed of 250 km/h.

Slotting in above the S500, the S63 AMG comes in at R2 511 105. Power is provided by a 5.5-litre bi-turbo V8 that churns out 430 kW and 900 N.m of torque. Mercedes claims a 0-100 km/h sprint of 4.3 seconds and a top speed of 250 km/h which could be raised to 300 km/h with the fitment of the optional AMG Driver’s Package.

Sitting at the top of the range, the S65 AMG is priced at R3 087 014 and will make use of a 6.0-litre bi-turbo that produces 463 kW and a colossal 1000 N.m. As with the S63, a seven-automatic transmission will be fitted due to the nine-speed not being able to cope with the extra torque. Performance figures for the 65 include 0-100 km/h in 4.1 seconds and the same top speed as the 63.
