Update: Suspect in Bethelsdorp hit and run case that killed minor granted R5000 bail

Update: A 26 year-old man, who was arrested on Sunday afternoon, at his house in Windvogel, Port Elizabeth, after an apparent fatal hit and run incident involving a 4 year-old Bethelsdorp boy on Saturday evening, appeared in the Gelvandale Magistrate's Court on Monday facing a charge of culpable homicide.

According police spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu, Curtis Felkers was released on a R5 000 bail and will be expected in court again on the 13th of October.


The 4 year-old  boy sustained fatal injuries in an apparent hit and run incident on Saturday evening, at the corners of Bergins and Bardiem Street, Bloemendal.

According to Bethelsdorp police, the child’s mother was getting into a taxi when a blue jumbo Golf, travelling at high-speed hit the child.

“The child was dragged a few metres before the vehicle sped off without stopping. Orlando Du Plessis died at the scene,” described Colonel Naidu.

She added that witnesses allege that there were three occupants in the car - two males and a female.

The victim's family had attended a funeral and was on their way home, when tragedy struck.
