Van Heerden, Masuku to join Chippa while Zuke remains in search

Former Bafana Bafana left-back, Marc van Heerden, has signed with Chippa United, while confirmation is still under sought that Menzi Masuku has joined the Eastern Cape club.

According to the Orlando Pirates, Masuku has definitely moved to Chippa and both clubs regard him now as a Chippa United player, but his tenure and contract with the franchise has not yet officially been confirmed.

The 23-year-old Masuku is currently under preparation for Team SA at the Rio Olympics for the SA U-23 side, and his move to Chippa was defiantly officiated by Pirates’ Administrative Officer, Floyd Mbele.

“The club released a statement that Menzi is going to Chippa. Chippa also released a statement that they’ve gotten Menzi from Pirates…I made a statement about Menzi. My statement hasn’t changed,” Mbele told KickOff.

More officially, van Heerden has signed a three-year contract with the Chilli Boys and makes his move from AmaZulu in Durban.

Van Heerden was transfer-listed after AmaZulu’s failed attempt to bid an immediate and definite return to the ABSA Premiership last season.

Irreversibly, Chippa midfielder, Sandile Zuke’s contract expired in June and the club opted not to renew it – leaving Zuke in search of a new club ahead of next season. Zuke, was however, linked with possible moves to Cape Town City and Bloemfontein Celtic.

Meanwhile, the Chilli Boys are currently in KZN where they launched a tournament and training for pre-season preparation amidst next season for possible recruitment opportunities.

Luthando Zibeko, Chippa Communications Manager, said that the launching of the tournament aims at grooming, shaping, developing and giving opportunities to future football talent for the club.

“20 local teams will partake in the Jongisizwe Memorial tournament which will be played annually in August. The player of the tournament will have an opportunity to join Chippa United,” Zibeko said in a statement.

“We hope the tournament will create sporting opportunities for the youth and contribute to the development of football in the OR Tambo region,” Zibeko concluded.
