Vehicles stolen in Port Elizabeth found abandoned along N2 Highway

Police in Grahamstown on Monday recovered two suspected stolen vehicles that were found by officers from the Grahamstown OCC Task Team abandoned on the N2 Highway.

According to police spokesperson, Captain Mali Govender, the task team was conducting its patrols on the N2 when they spotted a white Mitsubishi Colt bakkie abandoned at the Pop Inn.

"The system, after the vehicle was checked, showed that it was stolen at Walmer, Port Elizabeth, in April," she said.

While the officers were following a truck that was towing the Mitsubishi, they came across a 1400 Nissan bakkie also abandoned on the N2 Highway.

“They stopped and the police checked the vehicle’s chassis number,” said Captain Govender.

"The results reflected that the vehicle was being sought in a Mount Road case and was reported stolen in April this year.

"The amount of the value of the vehicles is R135 000."

She said that no arrests have yet been made in both cases.
