Victoria Bay ready for the Festive Season says George Municipality

NOVEMBER 23, 2016

The George Municipality's Department of Community Services has recently undertaken routine maintenance at Victoria Bay prior to the busy festive season.

"George Municipality strives to achieve the goal of a safe, clean and green George," said Chantel Edwards-Klose, Manager: Communications at George Municipality.

"And in preparation for a bumper season,  the festive safety plan for George, which is drawn up annually includes a zero tolerance approach to the consumption of alcohol and inappropriate behaviour in public venues.

"The local lifesaving teams have completed their pre-season training and have been working every weekend from the 1st October at Herold Bay, Gwaing, Victoria Bay, Wilderness Beach and the Conville Swimming pool. As of the 2nd December they will be on duty seven days a week at the various municipal beaches and Conville Public Swimming Pool until the end of January 2017."

Several initiatives have been undertaken by the local business sector and home owners working together to improve the public areas in Victoria Bay and the municipality applauds the collaborative effort undertaken. The  George Municipality has upgraded the ablution blocks, installing new basins, toilet roll holders, new bins and painted inside and outside.

"A public toilet attendant has been employed and will work  from 07h45 to 16h30 daily. A second attendant will be employed for high season," added Edwards-Klose.

"The restaurant building, which is leased from the municipality, was repainted with structural improvements made as well. Part of the routine maintenance has included the Parks and Recreational Areas division clearing the road verges and berms (earthen contour wall)."
