Telecommunications giant, Vodacom, on Friday held a Shavathon at its Newton Park offices in Port Elizabeth, in aid of the national CANSA Shavathon initiative.

The campaign seeks to promote awareness and raise funds for the fight against cancer. It was also meant to show support to the survivors of cancer and those that are affected.

At the event, Vodacom Port Elizabeth staff displayed the spirit of giving by having their hair shaved or dyed while others contributed a cash donation to the cause.

Vodacom’s Executive Head of Commercial Sales, Distribution and Marketing, Travis Goate, said that giving back in such a way is how all their staff members are wired.

“This drive is borne out of the principle of trying to make the spirit of giving part of the DNA of Vodacom staff. Vodacom staff is encouraged to give as much as possible to the communities that have made us who we are.

“Through such initiatives we are displaying that le can give in whatever form they can: through cash, time, skills and goods,” said Goate.

Partners of the Vodacom staff as well as family members and celebrities were also invited to take part in this initiative to raise funds for the fight against cancer.
