The Butterworth Regional Court on Thursday sentenced 24 year-old Sibongile Ntsabo to 18 years behind bars after it found him guilty of murdering an 80 year-old woman in March 2014, Eastern Cape police said.

According to the police, Ntsabo had met a young woman in Dutywa in February 2014. He allegedly tortured the young girl so that she would fall in love with him.

The torture was reported to the headman of Nyhwarha Village, Dutywa.

Following a community meeting, the headman decided that Ntsabo should receive five lashes. The village headman also appointed the elderly woman, Sandisile Mtshotshisa, to carry out the punishment.

On the 30 March 2014, during the afternoon, the Nstabo is believed to have met with the deceased and stabbed her to death for the reason that he was caned by the deceased.

Nsabo was not charged for the alleged torture of the woman.
