Volkswagen sizes Up! range
Having sold in commendable numbers since debuting in February last year, Volkswagen South Africa has boosted its Up! city car line-up with the addition of a five-door model, as well as an SUV-inspired version known as the CrossUp!
Originally not considered for local release due to pricing concerns and possible competition with the locally made five-door Polo Vivo, the enlarged Up! features the same dimensions all round as its three-door sibling, and once again makes uses of the same 1.0-litre three cylinder petrol engine that makes 55 kW and 95 N.m of torque. A five-speed manual continues as the sole transmission option.
Slotting in above the five-door, the CrossUp! draws inspiration from the popular Vivo Maxx, CrossPolo and CrossCaddy and boasts black plastic cladding, satin silver roof rails, mirrors and skidplate, special 16-inch Cross alloy wheels and a 15 mm ride height increase.
Completing the range, the new ColourUp! takes over from the previous MoveUp! spec as the new flagship Up!, with changes including 17-inch Polygon alloy wheels painted in red or yellow, tinted windows, model-specific side decals, painted mirrors and special coloured inserts on the dashboard inside.
A three year / 120 00 km warranty is standard on all model.
