Warm hearts for Mandela Day with Port Elizabeth soup kitchen

JULY 15, 2015

SPAR Eastern Cape is joining forces with the Radisson Blu hotel to warm the hearts and bellies of needy Nelson Mandela Bay residents at a special soup kitchen for Mandela Day on July 18.

Port Elizabeth residents are invited to spend their 67 minutes helping them cook up a storm in a tented mobile kitchen on the grassed area at Pollok Beach in Port Elizabeth.

Between 8am and 5pm, the team will aim to cook a massive 2 600 litres of soup and will need all the hands they can get to peel, cut and chop the ingredients, which have been donated by the retail giant.

The prepared soup will be dished out to selected charitable organisations throughout the metro.

Complimentary coffee will be available for volunteers.

There will also be a special static display by the South African National Defence Force.
