Warning signs erected at Voëlklip to caution visitors

BY MARC JACOBSON - MARCH 23, 2016

Due to the deaths of six people in Voëlklip, near Herolds Bay, in recent months, warning signs have now been erected to take precaution in the area.

George Municipal Manager, Trevor Botha, said to AlgoaFM that the signs would warn visitors in advance that they would be entering a dangerous area.

In a recent incident, three young men died when their Hilux bakkie immersed into the sea at Voëlklip after dropping from a cliff.

Two of them were identified as Marnic Els (21) and Luandro Jansen (22), while Werner Finger (20) was declared missing.

All three were students at the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University at the George Campus.

In addition, on numerous occasions, fishermen and other visitors were also hit by waves when walking on the rocks in the area.
