Warriors remain winless in Sunfoil Series

The Unlimited Titans cemented their spot at the top of the Sunfoil Series log, as they cruised to an eight-wicket victory over the Warriors at St. Georges Park, Port Elizabeth, on Monday.

The four-day match began on Friday 18th March with the Warriors batting first and setting a mediocre total of 282 all out off 67.4 overs. The top run scorers were Somila Seyibokwe with 101 and Kelly Smuts with 67.

The stand-out bowler for the Titans was Tabraiz Shamsi, who proved to be a thorn in the Warriors batting attack after taking an astonishing seven wickets for 93 runs after bowling 19.4 overs.

The Titans ended their first innings with 399 all out off 115.1 overs – taking a 117-run lead over the Warriors. Their top scorers were Qaasim Adams with 167 and Protean, Dean Elgar, with 130.

The Warriors showed no improvement in the second innings as they produced another mediocre total of 256 all out off 74.4 overs. Their top run-scorer in that innings was Colin Ackermann with 72.

Shamsi showed another fine display on his bowling attack for the Titans, as he took an additional five wickets for 80 runs after 29.4 overs in their second innings.

The total meant that on Monday, the Titans needed just 140 runs for victory. On 58 without loss just after lunch, after rain also starved much play in the morning session; the Titans needed a further 82 runs for victory.

Wasting no time with rain still a looming threat in the air, Heino Kuhn and Elgar extended their hand in relative aggressive batting, as they helped the Titans achieve the total within less than an hour.

Kuhn knocked 10 fours and one six, as he scored 67 off of 89 balls.

The Titans have now won five out of their eight matches in the Sunfoil Series so far positioning well in first place with 112.32 points, while the Warriors still remain winless after eight games with just 36.64 log points.

The Warriors will now play the Knights at De Beers Diamond Oval, Kimberley, on March 31st in their next four-day Sunfoil Series fixture.
