Water levels slightly drop in Metro dams but still 100% full combined
While the water levels in three dams supplying the Nelson Mandela Bay slightly fell this week, figures released on Monday by the Department of Water and Sanitation show that the Metro's reservoirs are still 100% full on average.
Dam: Capacity – Volume of water
- Koega dam: 99.960%
- Churchill dam: 100%
- Impofu dam: 100%
- Loerie dam: 98.81%
- Groendal dam: 100%
- Average all: 100%
Still, local residents are encouraged to do all they can to conserve water and to report leaks to the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality as experts have warned of a general water crisis facing the country as a whole.
Across the Eastern Cape, it is, however, mixed bag with some dams full and others critical.
According to the Department of Water and Sanitation, in total Eastern Cape dams are about 75.9% - a fall from the previous weeks.
