Water supply to Uitenhage to be restored tonight - Metro

The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality has said it expects water supply in Uitenhage to be restored on Tuesday afternoon, after a burst pipe on Monday left a number of areas without water.

In a statement, Metro spokesperson Kupido Baron said the recent hot weather caused in an unexpected surge in water demand, resulting in the various reservoirs being unable to recover any water before the pipe ruptured.

“The pipeline has been isolated but repair teams are finding it difficult to access the site due to its location, steep inclines and inclement weather,” Baron said.

“As a result, certain higher lying suburbs are already without water and more areas will be affected by this evening. The only areas which should not be affected are the Central Business District, Industrial Areas and most of the Western Suburbs”.

He stated that the Metro would continue deploying trucks to the affected areas to provide residents with water until the pipe is repaired.
