Weekend Cricket News: St Andrew's College vs Grey High School

Grey won the toss on Saturday and had little hesitation in electing to bat first on Lower field. The St Andrew’s College seamers bowled well as a unit restricting the Grey top order. At morning tea College had a tight grip on the game and Grey had to dig deep on 62/5.

Grey responded very well with a fine 107 run partnership by Ben Dryden and Jose Smith. Grey declared on 234/7. Jose Smith top scored for Grey with a mature knock of 113 in an innings which displayed sound footwork against the St Andrew’s College spinners. James Quarmby picked up 3 wickets and was well supported by quick bowlers Chris Norval and Robert Quarmby.

The St Andrew’s College batsman were up for the afternoon run chase. College showed intent from the start and lost the key wicket of David Rushmere early on. Chris Benjamin and Peter Jarvis remained on task and produced a superb 217 run second wicket partnership which secured a well-played 7 wicket win for St Andrew’s College.

Peter Jarvis’s knock of 115 came off 137 balls and Chris Benjamin’s captain’s knock of 91 not out displayed sound maturity in a challenging run chase.
