Weekend Operation Fiela raids target Port Elizabeth's gang lands

An SA Police Service-driven Operation Fiela effort targeted Port Elizabeth's notorius gang lands, in the city's Northern Areas, over the weekend resulting in the arrest of nine known gangsters for murder and attempted murder.

Eastern Cape police also said that eleven suspects were arrested for possession of and dealing in drugs and dagga while one suspect was arrested for the unlawful possession of a firearm.

Abalone, valued at R3 million was also seized at two separate premises, where two suspectes were also arrested and a firearm was recovered.

Police also confiscated a firearm and 21 rounds of ammunition while seizing drugs worth R3 000 and R24 000 in cash - believed to have been derived from the sale of drugs.

Fourteen shops were visited and 53 cartoons of illegal cigarettes were confiscated by Customs.  

However, over the same weekend gang violence claimed two people in Booysens Park, Port Elizabeth, bringing the count to four victims in less than a week.
