Weekend shooting results in arrest of 21-year old Gelvandale man


Port Elizabeth police have confirmed the arrest of a 21-year old suspect for an alleged shooting incident in the Gelvandale area this past weekend.

Speaking in a statement, police spokesperson Colonel Priscilla Naidu said the two men were dropped off near a block of flats in Shauderville on Sunday evening, where after they started shooting at four men standing nearby.

She said one of the men was shot in the upper right leg while the gunmen ran off. Members of the Gang Task Team arrested him the following day on a charge of attempted murder as well as a murder following a random shooting in Kemdrick Street on December 18th, which claimed the life of a 24-year old man. The second shooter remains at large.

The suspect will appear in the Port Elizabeth Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.
