Well-known Port Elizabeth taxi boss gunned down in his home in mystery shooting


Port Elizabeth police on Monday afternoon said that they were still investigating the mystery shooting of a well-known taxi boss in New Brighton on Sunday.

According to the police, the taxi driver is believed to have been shot on Sunday afternoon by unknown assailants at his home in Mabija Road.

 The 69 year-old taxi driver’s body was found in his kitchen, next to a refrigerator, with multiple gunshot wounds in the upper body.

Police spokesman Constable Mncedi Mbombo told RNews that the man was well-known in the taxi industry and by the community and was affiliated with one of the city’s well known taxi associations.

“The wife of the deceased found his body in their kitchen after returning from church at half past six in the evening,” he said .

Cnst Mbombo said that the motive of the attack has not yet been confirmed and no arrests have been made.

Police are continuing with the investigation.
