West Indies conclude first day at Newlands at 276/6

JANUARY 3, 2015

The Proteas will look to skittle the West Indies out early Saturday morning when day two of the third and final test resumes.

The West Indies ended the day on Friday on 276/6.

It was a quiet first day with wickets falling but not as regularly as South Africa would have wanted to.

Dale Steyn picked the first wicket dismissing Kraigg Brathwaite.

However, the star of the bowlers was debutant Simon Harmer as he took three wickets.

Local hero Stiaan van Zyl also got his first wicket in his first ball earlier in the game sending Marlon Samuels back to the Pavilion.

Steyn removed West Indies captain Denesh Ramdin late in the day giving the Proteas some late hope.

However, no more wickets fell.

Samuels along with Ramdin, and Leon Johnson all made good starts but weren't able to sustain the pressure.

Play gets underway at 10:30am.
