Western Cape municipalities owe Eskom R21.1-million - Afriforum

BY CHARL BOSCH - JANUARY 23, 2015

Civil rights organisation, Afriforum, has revealed that two Western Cape based municipalities owe Eskom a combined R21.1-million in outstanding electricity bills.

In a statement, the group’s Parliamentary Coordinator in the province, Stefan Pieterse, said the R12.5-million and R8.2-million owed respectively by the Kannaland and Cederberg Municipalities, both run by the ANC, equates to 97% of the total outstanding electricity fees in the whole of the province.

“Who can 90% of DA-run municipalities have no debt while ANC-led municipalities are virtually swimming in debt?” Pieterse asked.

“Surely all municipalities should be capable of running their finances accordingly,”
