WHITENOISE Part 6: Ramaphosa brought in “to get rid” of Tshabalala

Disgraced South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) Chairwoman, Ellen Tshabalala, has reportedly been asked to vacate her position after being found guilty last week of lying about her academic qualifications.

According to an article in the Sunday edition of CityPress, Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa has allegedly been asked to deal with the matter to prevent Tshabalala from “further embarrassing the ANC”.

The supposed meeting to discuss the issue however never took place with one source telling the paper that Tshabalala had failed to turn-up at the sitting with Ramaphosa and Communications Minister Faith Muthambi, while another claimed that Ramaphosa went overseas after the ANC National Executive Council (NEC) raised the issue of Tshabalala’s dismissal.

“We decided that even though we have an interest in the SABC being properly managed, we did not want to micromanage them,” Head of the ANC’s Communications Sub-committee, Lindiwe Zulu was quoted by the paper as saying.

A spokesperson for Ramaphosa, Ronnie Mamoepa, said that he was unaware of such a meeting taking place, with ANC Secretary-General, Gwede Mantashe, claiming that the issue had been left to Parliament and not further discussed by the NEC.
