FEBRUARY 23, 2016

Willowvale police on Tuesday morning, at about 00:30, arrested a 20 year-old suspected armed house robber at Mbhangcolo Village.

"It is alleged that a 58 year-old woman was sleeping with her boyfriend in her business building when the suspect entered through the window and pointed a fire arm to the boyfriend," said police spokesperson, Captain Jackson  Manatha.

"It is further alleged that he demanded money from the 58 year-old woman.

"The woman gave him some undisclosed amount of money."

The suspect also threatened to take away a vehicle owned by the woman. It was at that stage that the boyfriend of the woman, whose age is not known, resisted.

"A fight ensued between the boyfriend and the suspect.

"The boyfriend managed to overpower the suspect and disarmed him of the firearm," described Cpt Manatha.

"The woman screamed very loud and the community members came to their rescue.

"The suspect was locked in one of the rooms and police were informed."

Police arrived and arrested him. He was charged with house robbery and possession of unlicensed firearm.

The fire arm, which had no rounds of ammunition will be circulated and will also be sent for ballistic testing.

The suspect will appear before the Willowvale Magistrate Court on Thursday on charges of house robbery and unlicensed fire arm.

Butterworth Cluster Commander Brigadier Stanley Sibidla praised the community members of Mbhangcolo Village Willowvale for their assistance in assisting the police to fight crime.
