Worked over Mercedes Vito arrives
Having been around locally since 2004, Mercedes-Benz South Africa has finally launched the replacement for its still popular but terminally aged Vito van.
Known internally as W447, the newcomer slots in below the luxury V-Class introduced three months ago and, as with its predecessor, will once again be offered as a panel van, crew van and people carrier, but with the option of front-or rear-wheel drive on former.
Claimed to offer a class-leading payload up to 1 344 kg, the Vito panel van also sees the introduction of the same, albeit slightly revised, 1.6-litre CDI engine used in the A and C-Class. Available only in base 111 CDI form and connected to a six-speed manual gearbox, power is rated at 84 kW and 270 N.m of torque with fuel consumption estimated to be around 6.5 L/100 km.
Completing the panel van range, the 114 and 116 CDI makes use of the same 2.2-litre mill as in the V-Class with power coming in at 100 kW and 320 N.m of torque and 120 kW and 380 N.m of torque respectively. Sending drive to the rear wheels only, both can also be have with an industry first 7G tronic automatic transmission or the manual.
Replacing the previous Vito Crew Bus, the new Mixto is claimed to offer the advantages of a panel van with that of a people mover. Power and drive remains unchanged from the panel van but is limited to 111 and 116 CDI forms only.
Sitting at the top of the range, the new Vito Tourer serves as a replacement for now discontinued Viano and comes offered in either multi-purpose Pro or luxury Select guises. Engine-wise, the Pro makes do with the same line-up as the van, while the Luxury is offered in 116 CDI spec, or a model exclusive 119 CDI BlueTEC that serves up 140 kW and 440 N.m of torque.
A five year / 120 000 km service plan is standard on all models.
