Zuma’s support slumps as protesters get ready to march

BY CHARL BOSCH - DECEMBER 15, 2015

A series of protest marches against President Jacob Zuma are reportedly expected to take place in a number of cities over the coming days.

According to Eyewitness News, demonstrations in Pretoria and Cape Town are planned for tomorrow while a similar action in Johannesburg is set to commence soon.

In Port Elizabeth, where Zuma is due to make his Day of Reconciling address at the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University, protesters are planning to march to the office of Nelson Mandela Bay Executive Mayor, Danny Jordaan, to hand over a memorandum demanding the President vacate his position.

A survey by rating’s agency Ipsos has meanwhile revealed that support for Zuma continued to decline in wake of his axing of former Finance Minister Nhlanhla Nene, with South Africans judging him to be the least trusted government official out of 11 state affiliated departments and agencies.
