Two people were injured on Wednesday when a pedestrian bridge over a railway track gave way in Jeppestown in the Johannesburg city centre.
The collapse occurred between the Jeppe and George Goch railway stations.
A man and a woman, between 21 and 25 years old, were crossing the pedestrian bridge this afternoon when it suddenly collapsed. They have since been taken to Charlotte Maxeke Hospital for medical treatment.
Metrorail Gauteng was forced to suspend its services between Johannesburg and Germiston this afternoon as pieces of the bridge fell onto the train track. The overhead railway equipment was also damaged during the collapse.
