50-year-old rescued after falling 15m at Table Mountain

A 50-year-old woman was rescued from Table Mountain on Monday afternoon after she fell approximately 15 m between Indiƫ Fenster and Platteklipkloof during a hike.

According to a post on the Wilderness Search and Rescue (WSAR) Facebook page, a dedicated team of professional helpers, as well as volunteers from WSAR responded to the incident.

“The hiker and her family were walking when she misstepped and fell 15 m off the trail.

“Her family immediately called the emergency number.”

A rescue team attached to the Western Cape Department of Health and Welfare’s EMS/Air Mercy Service (AMS), as well as a rescue helicopter, were called to the scene. Rescue workers were then hoisted down to near the injured walker.

She was treated at the scene by paramedics and placed in a rescue stretcher, before being hoisted off the mountain and flown to a nearby landing zone.

The 50-year-old was then taken to the nearest hospital for treatment.
