David Rees, the beloved soap actor, had barely been back home a week when his health took another hit.

His spokesperson, Corlia Strauss, confirmed to RNews on Wednesday that David was again admitted to the intensive care unit due to a severe lung infection and a disturbed heart rhythm.

“He is still weak, but improving every day,” said Corlia.

David, who plays the role of Chris Welman 7th Avenue performed, had a heart attack on Sunday 30 July and had to undergo a double heart bypass shortly afterwards. He was discharged on 26 August after almost a month in the Milpark Hospital in Johannesburg.

His latest setback so soon after his discharge from the hospital was not only a shock to his loved ones, but also to the fans of the actor.

According to a post on David’s Instagram account, his health battle is arduous, but Corlia says David remains positive and looks forward to his return home with great anticipation.

“The influx of supportive messages and well wishes continues to be a source of strength for David, and we are reaching out for continued assistance to facilitate David’s recovery,” she said.

David does not belong to a medical fund, and after his first hospital visit, his sister Monique set up a Back a Buddy page to cover his medical expenses. A goal of R500 000 has been set on the page and donations of just under R90 000 have already been received. To contribute to David Reeds’ fund, follow the Back a Buddy link or send an email to [email protected].

“No donation is too small or too big, every gesture of kindness means the world. In these challenging times, the power of community cannot be overemphasized. With unity we can truly perform miracles and touch lives,” says Strauss.

“We appreciate the patience, love and understanding at this time. I really appreciate the love and support,” said Rees.
