A one-off test turned into a thriller for SA’ers

Henry

Wow.

To say that Australia’s women’s cricket team is swinging the baton in the one-off Test against the Proteas in Perth could be nominated for the understatement award of the year.

Things are turning into a thriller for the poor South Africans.

After the Proteas were bowled out for just 76 runs in 32 overs, the Aussies replied with a whopping 576/9 runs.

Annabel Sutherland hit 210 runs, Alyssa Healy scored 99 runs and the South African bowlers conceded more than four runs per over.

The team faced a deficit of exactly 500 runs.

Things didn’t fare much better with bat and leg-spinner either.

Laura Wolvaardt, Anneke Bosch and Suné Luus all lost their wickets before you could say “plotter performance” and after eight overs the Proteas faltered with their score at 13/3.

At least Tazmin Brits and Delmi Tucker were able to pull a few chestnuts out of the fire and at half-time the visitors had 67/3 on the scoreboard.

Another 432 runs away from Australia’s first innings score.

  • Summary of the scorecard:

South Africa 76/10 in 31.2 overs: Suné Luus 26, Darcie Brown 5/21 and Annabel Sutherland 3/19.

Australia 576/9 in 125.2 overs: Annabel Sutherland 210, Alyssa Healy 99 and Chloe Tryon 3/81.

South Africa 67/3 in 28 overs: Delmi Tucker 27* and Kim Garth 2/8.
