A collision involving two sedan vehicles, a Mercedes-Benz and a VW Polo, on the N4 toll road claimed the lives of six people early on Monday morning. The accident happened at Vosman in Emalahleni.

“Four of the deceased were occupants of one vehicle, while two died in the other vehicle,” says Moeti Mmusi, spokesperson for the department of community safety in Mpumalanga.

“Two more people sustained serious injuries and were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.”

According to Mmusi, one of the victims was burned beyond recognition.

“The investigation to determine the cause of the accident is already underway, and reckless and negligent driving cannot be ruled out.”

Meanwhile, Vusi Shongwe, MEC for Community Safety, Security and Liaison in Mpumalanga, again called on motorists to exercise due care when driving so that fatal accidents can be avoided.

“Motorists must always prioritize their safety and that of other road users. Those who drive long distances should take frequent breaks because many of the fatal accidents are caused by fatigue,” says Shongwe.
