Adorable ‘tooth dog’ steals hearts; still looking for a forever home

Despite his endearing and playful personality, Funny Bones has been waiting for his forever home for years now. This nine-year-old Africana dog, with a unique appearance that makes him stand out like a sore eye, has been with the Domestic Animal Rescue Group (DARG) in Hout Bay in the Western Cape for the past eight years.

However, after numerous attempts to find a loving home for the four-legged friend – and “overwhelming interest” in him – he is still at the shelter and is waiting for a loving family to spoil him in his last few years.

Funny Bones recently touched the hearts of thousands of animal lovers after the charity shared adorable photos of him on Facebook.

The post was shared more than 10,000 times and the comments were overwhelmingly positive. No one can believe that after all these years Funny Bones still hasn’t found his forever home.

“If you’ve ever been made fun of, or if you’ve ever been laughed at, then you’ll know how I feel,” reads the post on Facebook.

“I look a little different, but I was born that way, with my ‘toofies’ and all.

“I have been with DARG for so many years and I don’t know why people don’t want me. A lot of cat owners like me, but I don’t like cats at all… sorry about that.”

DARG describes Funny Bones as the “sweetest, cuddliest and funniest dog at the shelter” and says that he is obsessive when it comes to toys and sticks.

“Funny Bones will fit well with a family that has children, he loves children. Unfortunately, he will never be able to live in a home with cats, we have tried countless times, but he just really doesn’t like cats.”

DARG tells that Funny Bones ended up with them as a young puppy from an informal settlement, Imizamo Yethu, after he was stabbed in the neck with a sharp object.

“He was a very frustrated and ‘difficult dog’ in his younger days because he didn’t want to be at the shelter, he was very stressed here for a long time, he just wants his own family who will love him as much as he does is.”

DARG says they are overwhelmed with the applications after their last post about the adorable beagle.

“We had almost 120 people email or call to apply. We hope that 2024 will be Funny Bones’ year.”

“Some people laugh at me when they see me at DARG.

“I often see other dogs going out in cars and I don’t know where they are going, but they look so happy with their heads sticking out of the window. I’m such a good boy and just want to be loved so I try to be nice when people come to my cage… I love playing ball games but my favorite thing is hunting for sticks in the water. My dream is to have my own person who will love me for the special boy that I am.

“Please give me a chance so that I can make you smile every day.”
