A photo made with artificial intelligence, in which the words “All eyes on Rafah” appear, has been shared more than 44 million times on Instagram accounts worldwide since Monday.

This comes after a deadly airstrike by Israel on Rafah, which claimed the lives of 45 people in a camp and injured 49 people.

The photo depicts rows of tents packed close to each other and stretching endlessly across a desert landscape overshadowed by mountains. This refers to the hundreds of thousands of Palestinians who fled here during Israel’s military campaign against Hamas.

Chilean-American actor Pedro Pascal, supermodels Bella and Gigi Hadid, who are of Palestinian origin, as well as French soccer player Ousmane Dembélé, are among the celebrities who shared the photo on Instagram.

The slogan “All eyes on Rafah” was also widely shared on other publications and social networks, especially on X, where the hashtag #alleyesonrafah has already received more than one million hits, according to the online monitor Visibrain.

There were also 27.5 million messages published on X in three days about the attack in Gaza City on the border of Egypt that sparked worldwide outrage.

The war broke out on October 7 when Hamas attacked Israel. More than 1,170 people, mainly civilians, were killed, according to an AFP tally based on Israel’s official figures. Militants took 252 people hostage, of whom 121 are still being held in Gaza, and of whom 37 have been killed, according to the army.

Israel’s counterattack has already claimed 35,984 lives in Gaza, mainly women and children, according to the Hamas-controlled territory’s health ministry.
