Two suspects spent the weekend behind bars after they allegedly tried to bribe an investigator of the Falcons with R10 000 last week. In return, the investigating officer had to ensure that one of the suspected bribe-takers’ brother was released on bail.
However, in an unexpected twist, the two suspects were handcuffed on Friday in Ga-Rankuwa moments after they handed over the cash to the investigating officer.
Capt. Tlangelani Rikhotso, spokesperson for the Hawks, says it is claimed that one of the suspects has a brother who has been in custody since last year for allegedly producing drugs.
The two suspects – who will now have to apply for bail themselves – will appear today (Monday) in the magistrate’s court in Ga-Rankuwa on charges of corruption. They are 40 and 42 years old respectively.
Maj. Gen. Patrick Mbotho, provincial head of the Hawks, meanwhile praised the investigating officer who showed “impeccable integrity”.
