A fire broke out in Braamfontein, Johannesburg on Tuesday afternoon after a gas pipe allegedly exploded.

Mgcini Tshwaku, MEC for public safety, said the fire was brought under control and the Egoli Gas pipes were isolated.

The incident took place at the corner of Bertha and De Korte Streets at the South Point building. No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire has not yet been officially confirmed.

This follows a fire last week Thursday that engulfed a five-storey building in Johannesburg and claimed the lives of at least 74 people, including 12 children. Another 61 people were injured and taken to various hospitals for treatment.
