Operation Lockdown lands five more suspects behind bars

Port Elizabeth police arrested five suspects and seized various drugs and unlicensed firearms as part of Operation Lockdown on Thursday.

In a statement, police spokesperson Colonel Priscilla Naidu said a 25-year old suspect was taken into custody in Statice Street, Bethelsdorp just after 18h10, in connection with the murder of a 36-year old Timothy Valley man, who was shot was cleaning his pool room.

Naidu said a second suspect of similar age was arrested on a charge of illegal firearm possession not long after, following the discovery of a .38 revolver in his possession.  Two more suspects, aged 18 and 23, were arrested for attempted murder after trying to break into a house in Shauderville on July 31st, while a 37-year old man taken into custody for the killing of a man in Booysens Park on July 29th.

During Thursday evening, police, armed with search warrants, undertook an investigation of suspected drug hot spots in Shauderville and Bethelsdorp, leading to the discovery of six dagga rolls, 25 dagga envelopes, 341 tik pipes and 1 026 stillpane tablets worth a total of R26 650.

The suspects are expected to appear in the Port Elizabeth Magistrates' Court this coming Monday.
